The Animals Arrive!

The Animals Arrive from Newcastle!

This was the week that the Newcastle Invaders – The Animals broke onto the U.S. Charts! They formed around 1962 with original members Eric Burdon, Alan Price, Hilton Valentine, John Steel and Bryan Chas Chandler.  All five had formerly been with the Alan Price Combo.  Earlier on Burdon had fronted the Pagans – a group that include Price.  Steel had been a part of The Kondors as had Chandler, who was also with a group called The Wild Cats.

Two other early members who came on about 1965 were keyboard player Mickey Gallahger and former Unknown band member Dave Rowberry.  Their tours would both be short-lived.

The group would continue into 1968 as The New Animals before finally dissolving. “House of the Rising Sun” was a monster hit world-wide and reached number 1 in the U.S.

Brian Poole

Brian Poole was an early U.K. rocker who started out around 1959 and was eventually backed by the Essex based Tremeloes in 1960 who, as a separate act, would surface on the U.S. Charts in 1967 with a short but strong run of hits.  Poole would only chart one time with “Someone, Someone” in the U.S.  The LP’s below didn’t make it to the U.S. market until 1967 with the first version being re-packaged once the Tremeloes hit big on their own.

New Zealand’s Gale Garnett was not a mainstream Invasion act. But she did enjoy a plethora of long play releases in the U.S. during the Invasion Era.
