Lavern Baker broke onto the national charts in 1955 with “Tweedle Dee” backed by The Gliders singing group.  Real name Delores Williams from Chicago – she passed in 1997 at age 67. “I Can’t Love You Enough” was her second charting single in early 1956 – (#14 Hot 100 and #6 R&B in 1955).  “I Cried a Tear” came along in 1958 and was her biggest Hot 100 Hit at #6 (#2 R&B).

    • Great information on Lavern Baker – I’ve added your site to the Links page – Would like to see an Index of your artists somewhere up front to give them more visibility. Some very interesting Posts are tucked into your site.
