From the Land of Band Box Records

Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller

May 16, 2013

When it came to Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller – it didn’t really matter what building they may have been composing in.  Whether it was early-on out on the West Coast or at Atlantic Records or the Brill Building – the results were always the same:  Pound for Pound perhaps the best rhythm-and-blues and rock-and-roll ever put down by any writer or team of writers anywhere – ever!  Starting off in their teens and coming together in California – these two in a relatively short-span of time turned the world of R&B and Rock upside down.

The Leiber and Stoller web site presents the big picture, and xxx’s excellent narrative “Hound Dog” (presented in direct narrative form – back and forth by Leiber and Stoller) tell the entire story.  But I would extract this tidbit from “Hound Dog” as one of my favorites.
