Sour Grapes

Moby Grape after Moby Grape before

Moby Grape enjoyed a moderately successful career amid the San Francisco bands of the Haight-Asbury era.  This LP was their first effort out.  Another “X” rated collectible was created when band member Don Stevenson reported in later years that on the day of the cover shoot for this LP – he “was not in the mood” (for a cover shoot) and didn’t much care for the celebrated photographer.  So at every photo spot location – he extended the finger (in this case on the washboard) and it made it into print.

It is very easy to located this LP for sale or auction – I believe the airbrushed version which followed is more difficult to find – but neither commands high prices.

  1. Also on the airbrushed side the U.S. flag was darkened out.
