From the Land of Band Box Records

Motown’s Chisa Label

Motown’s involvement with the Chisa label was brief – distributing for a time between September, 1969 and September, 1971.  Prior to that Chisa distributed independently beginning in late 1966.  The label was started up by Hugh Masekela who released singles on the label during the Motown distribution era.  Buddah Records took over the distribution for a short time.  As far as I know, none of the Chisa singles ever found their way onto any national charts.  I did find a few local market charting records by Arthur Adams and The Jazz Crusaders but that is about it.  – View the Motown Chisa 45 page.
