In July, 1967 – Time Magazine ran a special covering the counter-culture in the U.S. titled “The Hippies – Philosophy of a Subculture” (Time – July 7th, 1967 Vol. 90 No 1) – “Drop City near Trinidad, Colorado was included described as “…a creation of University of Colorado dropouts, who believe that geodesic domes are the shape of the future, (dropouts) occupy nine of them hammered together from old auto roofs”. Go Buffalos! On line information indicates the project was started in 1965 by student film makers not only from CU but from University of Kansas. Wiki P states that “tensions” led to the demise in 1968 of Drop City – and some of it’s inhabitants returned to Boulder to start up another visionary art project “Criss-Cross” – The dates don’t quite line up for 1968 – more like early to mid 70’s but hey, who’s keeping track of time?
