Talented North Denver Musician Will Be Missed
The supremely talented Jerry Corbetta passed away on Friday September 16th, 2016 at the age of 69. He had been battling Alzheimer’s disease for a number of years.
Jerry was a member of Colorado’s Sugarloaf (initially known as “The Chocolate Hair”). He was a co-writer of the band’s two big national hit records “Green Eyed Lady” (#3 in 1970) and “Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You” (#9 in 1974). Corbett also backed the Four Seasons for a number of years in the latter part of their career.
Jerry was in the Denver group “The Leather Souls” who performed regularly at the South Denver nightclub – The La Pitche (The Pitcher), and many others including a later lineup of The Moonrakers, The Brambles, The Corkers, The Half Doesn’t and a local group called The McCoys.
In 2014, Jerry joined former members of Sugarloaf on stage in Boulder when they were inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. Thought at the time of the ceremony to probably not be able to perform “Green Eyed Lady” with the group, Jerry surprised many when he stepped up to the keyboard, not missing a note.
This most likely was his final performance.
