LP – Pentagon 120 – England’s Fab Sound – 1964

(From collector/writer Brian McFaden – July, 2018:)

I just love the stuff you come up with Craig – keeps me on my toes! I’d never seen this one before except in that excellent piece you put out on Beatles imitators. I think the key is Morty Craft who’s listed as producer. He owned Warwick and later went to Premier/Coronet, etc. as a producer. Often used his Warwick stuff for the budget LPs. Must have worked for Cameo-Parkway for awhile too, since Pentagon is definitely one of theirs. The Matt Monroe tunes were released as a Warwick single here after he became famous, the same with the Petula Clark songs and the Joe Brown. These were all early recordings for Pye. They’re all fairly decent too. But the “Liverpool Lads” stink! As you can see from the attached, there really isn’t any info on the labels of the 45s.

https://youtu.be/nF1UxghP7uo
One or two of their tunes wound up on a compilation of garage/frat type rock, so I hardly think they’ve been any closer to Liverpool than downtown Philly!
