Max Morath
A Colorado Music Hall of Fame Future Inductee

Hall of Fame Inductee Display Board

Max Morath was a native of Colorado – born in 1926 and raised in Colorado Springs. He attended Colorado College and worked at local area radio stations dj’ing as well as performing on his honkytonk/rag time piano style. He would become a regular at the Imperial Hotel in the mining camp town of Cripple Creek in the mountains west of Colorado Springs (the same venue where Danny Griffith would later perform). Morath produced a nationally distributed television show while in Denver. His Gold Camp recordings were produced by Colorado Springs FM station KCMS.

Around 1963 Morath would migrate to New York where he would embark on a national career, and over time signing to several national labels including Vanguard, Epic and RCA. At one time he fronted a group The Original Rag Quartet – which included as a member the late Felix Pappalardi – later bass guitarist for Mountain.
