From the Land of Band Box Records

Kent Record Label Long Plays

Kent Records was the label that followed the demise of the Bihari brothers who had built their record empire in Los Angles first with the Modern/RPM/Flair and Meteor labels in the late 1950’s mostly concentrating on recording excellent rhythm and blues.

Singles were the Bihari’s primary format from the mid 1940’s well into the 1950’s.  The LP would not become a popular format for rhythm and blues artists due to – as stated here prior – to a lack of access to 45 rpm/33 1/3 rpm players by the black buying public.

The Kent label was formed in the 1960’s as a “budget” label following other Bihari budget endeavors such as it’s primary budget – Crown.  The Kent releases put together by a new management team provided the record buying public with some excellent substance – much of the material having been presented previously on other labels and often by other companies.

Kent continued to release material into 1974 including over 250 forty five singles.
