The Clovis Recording Studio Rocks!
From 1954 on into the 1970’s, Norman Petty and his wife Vi were very busy recording, composing, producing and running their Clovis, New Mexico music studio – which of course was the home base for Buddy Holly and the Crickets but way more rock and other musical acts entered the studio over the years. The Clovis studio was by no means a “hit factory” (Holly excepted to some degree) but it did provide many local rock and garage bands, as well as country musicians, the opportunity to enter a studio and cut a record!
More than one dozen Colorado musical groups/artists entered the Norman premises during the 1960’s primarily (see previous Post)
The Discography
Here is a year-by-year pictorial listing of the Petty influenced output from Clovis (45 rpm releases only). There were many more recordings produced which did not find their way onto vinyl, but that is being somewhat addressed by the active “Nor Va Jack Music Inc., which has access to the Petty master tapes. A few of these are listed due to Petty composer credits. Buddy Holly and the Crickets output are not included here.
