I know he also backed some of the big name guys at the time when they would travel w/o their bands in Denver. Bill Anderson was one that I remember because my dad indicated that he wasn’t a very nice guy. As I got into my adolescent years, I remember them playing at the Flight Deck and other clubs in the area.”

JACK KAUFMAN (HARMONY RECORDS DENVER – & KIMN DJ)
Jack Kaufman was the owner of Harmony Records in 1960’s in Downtown Denver on Welton Street. He was also a distributor for national record labels such as King and Philips and he worked closely promoting CU’s Serendipity Singers. He also did a sting on radio station KIMN. In the mid 1960’s Kaufman often dropped in at KIMN to promote his Pan American Records distribution product line.

KEN KESEY (LA JUNTA
Ken Kesey was born in September of 1935 in the southeast Colorado rural town of La Junta Kenneth Elton Kesey. Kesey was a prominent figure in the transition between the “beat generation” and the “hippie” generation emerging out of San Francisco, California.
His two-lasting contributions to our world were his novels “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (1960) and 1964’s “Sometimes a Great Notion”. Kesey hooked up with San Francisco’s “Merry Pranksters” along with beat figure Neil Cassady – who also had Colorado connections as did beat poet Allen Ginsburg who co-founded the “Jack Kerouac School for Disembodied Poets” in 1974 at the “Naropa Institute”.
Kesey died on November 10th of 2001 passing following a surgery to remove a tumor.
