The Royal Inn(104th@I-25) Mitches Supper club, The Snooty Moose, and the Arbor Lounge. We were also the house band for Ski Idlewild near Winter Park, We expanded to a four-piece when we added vocalist Donna Harris, For our last show of the night we dressed in 50’s style and came on stage as Danny and the Donuts. THE STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK
(WITH COLORADO COMPOSERS TIM GILBERT & JOHN CARTER)
University of Colorado in Boulder students Tim Gilbert and John Carter composed “Incense & Peppermints” for the Alarm Clock. The roommates had composed a song for Colorado’s Rainy Daze, “That Acapulco Gold” (Gilbert was a member of the band). Through their acquaintance with record producer and talent scout Frank Slay, “Incense” made it’s way to California. The group receiving the song was “The Sixpence” but their name was changed due to conflicts with other groups of the time. The initial release went out on the American label shown below before being picked up by the national label, Uni. The Strawberry Alarm Clock would never again approach the success of “Incense and Peppermints”.

SUCCESS WITH RON FRANKLIN
Daddy Bruce was a legendary Denver figure – who owned a BBQ restaurant and devoted his time and money and efforts assisting the poor. He fed 1,000’s at his annual Thanksgiving meal bringing together diverse elements of the community in doing so. He opened his restaurant in 1963 at Gilpin and East 34th in Denver’s Five Points neighborhood. When he first arrived in the Denver area he shined shoes and worked as a janitor.
He never hoarded his money but always shared. He passed away in 1994. The community rallied to collect money in order to cover his funeral expenses. A boulevard that passes through Five Points carries his name as a lasting tribute.

SWALLOW HILL MUSIC HALL
Click on Image to Visit their Web Site
From their Web Site: “Founded in 1979, Swallow Hill Music began as an outgrowth of the Denver Folklore Center, a music store in Denver’s Swallow Hill neighborhood that offered music lessons and performances to the community in the 1960s and 1970s. When the Folklore Center closed temporarily in the late 1970s, a group of committed volunteers formed Swallow Hill Music as a nonprofit organization whose mission is “to build community by connecting people to diverse music traditions on the stage and in the classroom.”
Our first Board of Directors was comprised of Geoff Withers, Roz Brown, Emmie Hewitt, Bill McCreary, Tom McMillan, Elissa Meyer and Larry Shirkey. Our first board president Geoff Withers said, “… the object is to make the Swallow Hill Music Hall and School a place that people talk about and enjoy, a “that’s where it is’ place.”
